How to Avoid Getting a Large Gut

It’s pretty evident just by taking a glance at the topic of a lot of our articles that American people, especially ones in the Rio Grande Valley, have issues with eating healthily and keeping at a slim size.

We’ve dedicated so many words on this blog on pointing out ways that an unhealthy lifestyle or type-two diabetes can be overcome. However, there’s another health issue that anyone can have while also being slim or without diabetes: a large gut.

A large gut can happen when lots of fat accumulates in the lower stomach area, and can be a real problem even when a person is otherwise not too overweight.

This is due to the accumulation of dangerous visceral fat around important organs as opposed to subcutaneous fat which is closer to the skin. In order to help people have a slimmer gut, and hopefully less visceral fat, we made this list of ways to keep that area flatter.

1. Eat Light

An excess of calories leads to an increase in fat, there’s no getting around that fact. You can’t out-exercise a bad diet, and you can’t have a slim stomach if you eat in excess, especially if it’s in junk food.

Eat light as a habit, and you’re almost halfway there.

2. Exercise

We just wrote that you can’t out-exercise a bad diet, but that doesn’t mean that a good exercise regiment won’t help you shed weight and keep you body toned.

If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, your metabolism will get impaired enough that you’ll still build up visceral fat in or gut, or just fail to lose it.

Remember to exercise on a consistent basis, and you can give yourself a huge advantage for avoiding a big gut.

3. Avoid Excess Alcohol

“Beer belly” isn’t just a cutesy way to describe a very real ailment; it’s something that you should keep in mind when you drink too much alcoholic beverages such as beer. Beer coupled with too much food can easily lead to an influx of calories, which leads to weight accumulation in the gut.

Pull back on the beer drinking, and you won’t have to worry as much about extra calorie consumption.

Having an over-sized gut can be an unpleasant thing to deal with, so we hope that you make good use of the points we raised in this article.
